Weekly Tarot Forecast: 14 January 2018

Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! I hope your January thaw has arrived or is on the way; we in the coastal range of Oregon are seeing rainy days punctuated by fog and a bit of sun here and there. Still, above freezing is very nice.

I’m using the Tarot Mucha this week. I like the Art Nouveau period of the turn of the last century, and the images often have a different slant than usual or nifty details.

Since there is no specific question or area of concern for these readings, my interpretation will be very general in nature, based on my sense of what the Tarot itself is addressing and the general energy potentials for the week.

Let’s do a chronological look first, and then we’ll use some mirrored pairs to round out the message.

The Timeline View

We begin this week with a lot more action than we began with last week. Looks like a great start, although you’ll have to fight for whatever position you choose to take. The Seven of Wands says you will prevail, but be aware that victory will be followed by swift action, which, if I take seriously the young lady’s expression in the Eight of Wands, could be a bit of a surprise. Get ready to take advantage of whatever comes your way.

By midweek, you will get a chance to take a breather in a way; it may still involve some sacrifice on your part to stop and get your bearings, making sure that all this new stuff is working in your head (Hanged Man). It’s OK to release any attachment to ultimate outcomes.

Moving toward the end of the week, you’ll get a gift from the past (Six of Cups) that may serve you when dealing with an interruption (Knight of Swords) in your contemplative process. I note that in this version of the Six of Cups, there seems to be a parade or gathering of sorts in the background. So, while you see the boy giving flower-filled cups to the girls (how lovely!), there’s also a sense of tense action in the background of the scene. Which actually leads to the last card, the Knight of Swords. Perhaps he was moving through that crowd to bring you some news or clarification on the impact of your own victory and movement in the beginning of the week.

You are set to begin the week with lots of action and to end it with more clarity on where to go next.

The focal point for this view of your cards is the powerful acceptance of the Hanged Man. In the midst of all the activity surrounding you this week, it will be important to release any attachments to outcomes, and to prepare to sacrifice your expectations to the flow of things.

You can expect a lot of activity surrounding you this week, with a struggle for victory (Seven of Wands) and a movement toward clarity of purpose (Knight of Swords), or a message from someone who can see the essence of the issue and will not hesitate to let you know! Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! The days are so short now; being in a basin among the hills and mountains creates a very short arc for the sun, and every day begins with fog. The day’s conversation is usually about whether the sun will have a chance to break through before it sets. Good hot tea weather, though. 🙂

I’m using the Bonefire Tarot for the first time this week. What’s fascinating to me about this deck is that I never would have chosen it myself, but it was a gift from a raffle held at the TABI conference this past summer. Like the Mary-el Tarot, I found the imagery initially to be too much and not really relate-able. I’m not into tattoo art as such, and the images seemed extremely busy. But also like the Mary-el, the companion book gave me the perspective I needed to understand and appreciate the deck’s take on Tarot symbolism. Gabi Angus-West allowed me to see the deck through her eyes.

The upshot of this deck is that it is in your face, and visceral, and deals in a grounded way with both the mythology and the real-life issues that the Tarot explores.

The Timeline View

We begin this week with practical stuff (Knight and Ten of Coins). Connected to the Earth, and yet also on the move and in respect for that which has gone before and will grow again. At the start of this week, take your time to savor both family and nature. Tap in to your Knight of Coins energy and move with deliberation, keeping a strong hand on your resources (the coin), and remembering the fable of the tortoise and the hare. Know that you have the backing of family in multiple generations (like the varying stages of growth in the poppies in the second card). Everything will end all right, and then will start again.

By midweek, your persistence and meticulousness, along with your respect for the cycles of life will provide a chance to take a break with the Four of Swords. As Gabi describes her, this knight has taken a rest from battle to soothe her weary bones. Things are still in flux; she’s left a shoe on in her haste to warm up and relax in the water. This break won’t last long, and she’s determined to take best advantage. I love the warmth of this card; Gabi’s not into the staid, cold, knight lying on a slab. Note that every card has the bone-fire symbol on it; the deck is never really cold or still. Breathe on Wednesday and remember your resources from the beginning of the week.

Moving toward the end of the week, something big you’ve been working on reaches a finishing point. Gabi’s original Fool now sits contentedly in her moment of victory, with all the elements in her corners; everything is right with the world. But remember that all victories are temporary; the Seven of Swords serves a warning here. Don’t rest on your laurels; there could be complications arising, and you’ll need a clear head to analyze other people’s motives, or you may even need to compromise your values in some way to make something happen. As with all sevens, it’s going to be complicated and subtle.

The focal point for this view of your cards is a moment of rest between challenges (Four of Swords). Remembering that you can take a respite in order to recharge will help keep your sanity this week. I suggest finding a space to rest however that works for you at some point this week.

Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation. I see the Knight of Coins and his energy as the tool you will need to face the two-headed deceiver in the Seven of Swords. Take your time to dot all i’s and cross all t’s and you will be able to finish the week with a tortoise victory lap. Set your boundaries and ask detailed questions.

The inner pair makes for a great partnership of power and understanding to fortify you for any challenges you face (and perhaps give you the space for the Four of Swords break). Appreciation of the cycle of life and the continuity of same (Ten of Coins) will allow you to take everything with some confidence that all will be well in the end (The World).

A challenging week, I think, but you should have the resources to pace yourself through it and keep the wolves at bay.

He uses theatrical exercises to pull the Tarot symbolism out of the cards and into the emotive life of humans. Lisa Eddy has a great spread for contemplating the Sagittarius New Moon tonight (Dec. 17). Lots of long-term changes in the energy of the planets as they seem to move across our skies, largely because large-scale Saturn is shifting, and he stays in one place a long time before moving. Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! The winter rains seem to have arrived here in Oregon, but the timing is about right. Lots of great leaf color but the leaves are falling fast.

I’m using the Alexander Daniloff 3rd edition deck this week. Daniloff’s distinctive artistic style has elements of medieval iconography with the addition of astrological symbolism to many of the cards. Definitely unique and once I learn the symbolism (no book, folks: go to Falcon Cloak Tarot for a great intro to the symbolic system for this deck). Partly because this deck is new, I ended up with an all-coins/pentacles draw, but I did shuffle several times first, so I’m going with this material abundance theme.

The Timeline View

We begin this week with a great support for practical projects, whether those might be working for someone else, building your business, taking care of family, or adopting a new healthy lifestyle. All of the astrological Earth signs are in this draw, starting with Taurus the Bull hanging out with the King and the Capricorn goat with the Queen. So much energy for a methodical approach to whatever you are doing this week, and maybe a visit from a supporting family member or friend to lend a hand.

By midweek, things are really getting moving (but meticulously) with  the Knight of Pentacles (Virgo the Virgin is the last Earth sign on his shield). Whatever your goal may be this week, it’s time to move out and start seeing some results.

Moving toward the end of the week, it’s all about changes as a result of your earlier efforts. The opposite-and-yet-the-same Ace and Ten of Pentacles sit side by side, emphasizing new opportunities that may start small but will grow quickly to a satisfactory conclusion. And since Daniloff favored a single person for his Ten of P (usually it’s a family), there’s also a sense of accomplishing most of what you wanted to do on your own (although I think I’d thank the court cards at the beginning of the week to keep good relations going).

The focal point for this view of your cards is the power of attention to detail and a methodical approach. Dot those i’s, cross those t’s, but unlike with the King of Queen of Pentacles, this Knight indicates movement, reinforced by the ultimately meticulous Virgo influence. Take your time with everything this week and get it right.

Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation. Almost looks like the King of Pentacles starts the draw and then travels through it to take charge of the results at the end (Ten of P). But this pairing also focuses on the importance of family, home, and legacy in this week’s activities. Use the resources of the King to make that rich conclusion happen.

The inner pair seems to be the source of the initial effort this week. The Queen of P and the Ace show where to look for initial support for your project, either in your own methodical nature or through the help of a woman (or supportive man) who has resources to help you get to the 10 of P moment.

Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! Looks like a really positive week, especially if we maintain some discipline.

I’m using The Gilded Tarot Royale from Ciro Marchetti. I really like the clarity and depth of his digital artwork. Although this deck is out of print, he has others that are available through traditional Tarot publishers, as well as his new Tarot Grand Luxe coming up.

Since there is no specific question or area of concern for these readings, my interpretation will be very general in nature, based on my sense of what the Tarot itself is addressing and the general energy potentials for the week.

The Timeline View

We begin with a small-scale opportunity or a small windfall (Ace of Pentacles). Maybe some extra money that wasn’t expected, or a new client with a small job to do, or a small raise in pay. With the King of Cup right next door, it could be an opportunity to get some good advice on something that’s close to home, or an opportunity to be the K of C and counsel someone who is just starting out on a new venture. The King is about feelings, but he’s also the most grounded of the Cups court.

By midweek, you’ve got bigger things to work with. The Emperor appears with a major message to take this new opportunity and get organized to take advantage of it. It’s nice if it’s your passion and the K of C has lent you his calm energy to put toward it, but the Emperor says you’d better also get a checklist going if you really want to make this work. Which fits in with the grounded nature of the Pentacles suit in the Ace.

Moving toward the end of the week, the Tarot basically says that if you stay organized, with a positive and calm attitude, this will be a very expansive opportunity for you that will introduce you to the world at large (The World). I see the World here as a card of recognition and visibility, as well as an overall sense of well-being. And that visibility looks like it will lead to enough growth in that Ace of Pentacles opportunity to put you in a position to help others or gain more support to make your new effort even larger (Six of Pentacles). Real great week for growing a business opportunity of some sort.

The focal point for this view of your cards is the creative power of the Emperor, the all-Father who turns chaos into order, and that will be the theme for this interpretation of the cards.

Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation. Lovely theme of Pentacles here, with the Ace at one end and the Six at the other. With the organizing power of the Emperor, you can definitely grow your initial opportunity into something you can share with others.

The inner pair of the King of Cups and the World reflect the feel-good part of this whole project. Not only does this week offer you some material support for something you might always have wanted to pursue, but it also feeds your passion and creates something good to share with everyone. Just make sure you pay attention to the structure and details (Emperor) to make everything work.

Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! Hope you like the rose and lavender combo; even though we are still in an RV park with a little patio, greenery is still possible. And the lavender smell is so soothing! Smokey here today in southwestern Oregon; hopefully the last of that this year, since the rain is coming for all of next week.

I’m using The Wildwood Tarot, which always makes me feel in tune with the Earth and its natural cycles, as we see a change in seasons in the latitudes closer to the poles.

Since there is no specific question or area of concern for these readings, my interpretation will be very general in nature, based on my sense of what the Tarot itself is addressing and the general energy potentials for the week.

The Timeline View

We begin with good feelings all around. Maybe an opportunity to spend quality time with friends (Three of Vessels), possibly old friends you haven’t seen in a while (Six of Vessels) or a meditative workshop, even. And you could lead the preparation for a get-together. Sounds like a great plan.

By midweek, things shift and all those good feelings will need to be channeled into taking on responsibilities for your family or “tribe.” The Ten of Bows will ask you to get back to work.

Moving toward the end of the week, the call of the Moon enters the picture. After all that effort with the Ten of Bows, I’m seeing this nature-based Moon calling for a bit of rest and meditation. Find a nearby nature area or park, or head out to your own backyard in the evening and chill with the new moon this week (it happens on Tuesday). As the Moon turns to wax again, the Ace of Bows appears to end your week with a spark of life for a new weekend project or social event. Lovely week!

The focal point for this view of your cards is the only really hard-work-responsible part of the week: the Ten of Bows. I think it means that getting your work done this week will be key to enjoying the energy of the other cards in the draw.

So, I did talk about that Ace possibly being the instigator of a social event (let’s party!), and this pairing reinforces that option. I’m seeing quilting group starting on a new project, mastermind group, going camping with friends in your favorite spot.

The inner pair of the Six of Vessels and the Moon surround your Ten of Bows with relaxation energy to support that effort. I know the Ten of Bows dude is by himself, but don’t forget the support you have from old friends and family for your work. You’ve come a long way, and once you get to your goal, you can do that new moon ritual next to a body of water, and maybe also find some time to play, like the otters in the card.

Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! The recent Pisces full moon seems to have cleared the energy from the solar eclipse, and the smoke from wildfires here in Oregon has retreated. Gorgeous start to the week here. Hope your location is mellow, although I know the folks in the southern USA in particular are still dealing with hurricanes, either presently or in the recent past.

I’m using the Tarot of the Hidden Realm this week. This fae folk-based deck is fascinating, but also quite subtle in terms of Tarot imagery. You won’t see the suit symbols drawn on the cards necessarily, although there are themes for each suit; it seems to be more about the energy of the card more than visible symbolism, but I like the earthy feel and connection to natural forces.

The Timeline View

We begin with the first/last of the Major Arcana, The Fool. Note that he is ignoring all the other cards and is focused solely on the message from his butterfly soul. He seems pretty happy with the prospects and holds his flower lazily in hand. In contrast, in the female in the Six of Swords looks for guidance among the birds in a stormy sky; she sees her kindred spirits there (note the feathers on her forehead), and I think she’s about to fly away into that area of light beyond the darkness. And yet, she carries the dark with her, in her hair and clothing. She doesn’t look upset, though, just hopeful and determined. I think the message here (both cards’ figures are facing in the same direction) is to decide how you want to move, possibly to stay disentangled from the energy of the card that comes next. You may start the week without much to worry about, with lots of room to dance and play, but you will shift into challenges by Tuesday and Wednesday, so it will be your challenge to choose focused effort versus just drifting along.

By midweek, you are faced with a reminder to discipline your passions and make the principled choice. Looks like we have Cernunnos here (The Devil), the Celtic god of fertility and the underworld. So, life’s creation (the “good”) and recycling into the Earth (the “bad”), all in one package. He’s looking slyly at us as a couple gives into their passions in the background. I’m seeing the contrast between the two cards that came before this one, and it seems that the “foolish” optimism of The Fool may be misplaced this week. May be we need to access the more focused energy in the Six of Swords and make sure we keep moving in a positive direction without distraction (and that gorgeous Cernunnos is a definite distraction!).

Moving toward the end of the week, we get a chance to leave Cernunnos behind and learn from a sage (The Hierophant) how to focus our creative energy to gain real momentum into next week (Eight of Wands). It’s a definite message that we will be tempted, and that we’ll need mental discipline and creative drive to choose the good in whatever we are working on. If you are feeling distracted and out of control this week, be prepared to allow someone to come in and help you regain your path.

The focal point for this view of your cards is the Devil/Cernunnos, a symbol of passion with no thought of consequence, distraction from our principles and goals, a slavery to our obsessions, because, hey, tomorrow we could die. The pivot point in this week of making choices.

Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation. The Fool and the Eight of Wands seem to represent passion without purpose vs. passion with purpose. It will be for you to choose which to tap into this week.

The inner pair of the Six of Swords and the Hierophant seem to send a message that you can take important guidance with you in making the best choice. Just reach back beyond Cernunnos there and grab the sleeve of the Hierophant to access his calm guidance and you’ll avoid all that distraction.

Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! Well, the solar eclipse was cool, even though we got a partial here.  The energy of it still feels weird two weeks later, actually.

Meanwhile, let’s see how this first full week of September looks to unfold. I’m using Ciro Marchetti’s Tarot Decoratif this week. An interesting interpretation of the Tarot de Marseille, with RWS elements. I prefer to read the Tarot de Marseille using numerology and suit qualities, along with Plato’s soul’s journey for the Majors, but as always, I do like Ciro’s digital art. So you will see me deviate from traditional RWS interpretations this week.

The Timeline View

We begin on a very positive and active note with two Batons cards. First, the Cavalier de Batons comes roaring in, ready to par-tay! Time to get going, and you better be ready quickly or he will leave you behind (Eight/Huit de Batons). Whatever you are up to this week, it should begin with more people contact (maybe more than you’d like), and things may get out ahead of you, so be prepared for lots of activity.

By midweek, things will still be moving along (the TdeM and numerology don’t see the eight as a trap, but as movement toward your goals), but with more forethought, and there may be some improvement having to do with your job or business (Eight/Huit d’Épées). You can still employ some of the energy from the beginning of the week, but it’s time to be more disciplined.

Moving toward the end of the week, a change in material circumstances (not necessarily for a loss just from the Five/Cinq de Deniers, though) is in the offing. First, the Five lets us know this change will likely be sudden and possibly disruptive or at least not expected. The downside is that the last card is the La Mort/Death card (not sure if the lack of name at the bottom was an error in printing or not, but I find the blank rather fascinating), which does indicate a loss of some sort, probably not under your control. You’ll just have to carry forward into next week to resolve things.

The focal point for this view of your cards is the Eight/Huit d’Épées, a symbol of thoughtful and disciplined movement toward usually career goals.

Now let’s pair the outer cards up to see how they might inform your situation. The Cavalier de Batons and La Mort/Death definitely have a cautionary message for you as you consider your job for this week. If you don’t stay focused or spend too much time in party mode, you will take a loss as a consequence. Try not to get in trouble this week.

The inner pair of the Eight/Huit de Batons and Five/Cinq de Deniers indicate that things may move along quickly in your social sphere, but that may cause a change in your financials that could impact the job. There is definitely a sense here that the disruptive change of the Five could be in the negative if you are not careful. Keep focused on your responsibilities to minimize losses and keep moving along in the direction you wish to go.

Welcome to your weekly Tarot forecast! Solar eclipse is imminent as I write this on Sunday evening here in the Pacific Northwest. We have lots of guests from other places in the state, although it’s not too badly crowded here because we’re not quite in the totality area. Should be a great energy boost. I’ll be doing a meditation rather than rushing out to look at it. In respect of the power.

The Timeline View

Well, the solar eclipse is supposed to be about an increase in power and movement by astrological lights, and the first two cards of our week reflect this. The Six of Arrows (Swords) in the Wildwood shows just one person sailing into the next challenge on a full moon night and then the Three of Vessels (Cups) shows an awesome stork celebration the next day. So, move on, my friends, for the reward will be yours and you can raise a glass with close friends (and storks represent delivery of positive messages of change).

By midweek, it’s going to be feminine power time. Now that you’ve moved on from what might not have worked last week and have celebrated your successful transition, you can draw on the power of the Queen of Bows (Wands). This hare knows exactly how to move quickly into new adventures and can reproduce creative efforts in no time. Things are getting creative and speedy.

Sorry, no break for contemplation this week. Moving on, you get to pull together your own masculine power to deal with multiple issues that may arise toward the end of the week. With the power of the Q of Bows and the Five of Bows, you have all the energies you need to keep moving into your own power, which culminates in a sense of being the master of your domain with the King of Stones (Pentacles) in the last card of the spread. Either you or someone close to you will bring a grounding to your excited Bows activities and will anchor your success with practical advice.
