This challenge thing is a real challenge! Sorry to be away; I really like these questions as I get going on my cartomancy career, so I may need to do more than one at once and schedule them, eh?
Question 4 in Ree’s 78 Keys challenge is: How long have you been reading the Tarot?
I began my exploration of Tarot about 12 years ago, but didn’t really do anything with it until 2012 (just in time for the “end of the world”! My own pattern reminds me that we often begin things as a hobby or play thing, and then don’t think about them as a professional career idea until the seed of inspiration sprouts, often years later.
When I discovered the Tarot back in the late 1990s, I loved using it for my own psychological/spiritual development. I was trying out all sorts of energy healing things and self-forgiveness, as well as going through the ups and downs of relationship issues and getting divorced. So, the Tarot was a personal guide at that point.
Then I went on a search for emotional stability and creative expression that led to poetry writing (some of it here), absorption of a lot of folk music, and a new relationship. Life’s detours.
Got reacquainted with Tarot because of Twitter, actually, and a now-friend from Scotland (her Tarot site here, although I understand she’s in midst of a major site revision) who I met through that social network. Sara’s re-introduction of Tarot and the resources of TABI led me to take cartomancy seriously as a way to channel whatever helping/healing energies I have to contribute. So, now I’ve been reading the cards again on an informal basis and as part of my learning curve over the past year.
This year is the year when I will turn “pro.” I’ll keep you all posted. And don’t forget, something you took up as a hobby that’s still a passion can also be a vocation. Just got to go for it!
